None of that fancy over the top food. Simple and delicious. The staff are also a treat, super nice and always in a good mood.Small size, we had to wait a bit for a table, but more than worth it.Very clean, cleaned everything thing (including chairs) before we sat down.
Great place!! A must go
Delicious and unique local experience at a reasonable price. Very small establishment with 6 tables and no reservations so I suggest lining up early. Tried the boiled pork bones and the goat cooked in red wine. Loved the goat! Highly recommend to anyone visiting Coimbra
Was told this is the best restaurant in Coimbra so is a must try. Reached there at 730pm sharp but there was already a queue. Waited more than 1 hr to get a table. No English menu, owner was too busy to give detailed explanations of the menu items. Ordered few based on what we were told to be the ‘must try’, turned out all are way too salty - to the point that we couldn’t really enjoy the food after all even the meat was tender.
Best place to eat ....So tasty ... be prepare is always busy...
INCREDIBLE food and a local institution! The meat literally falls off the bone! It pays to get there early! Once the 7 tables are filled, you'll wait an hour+ for someone to leave. Owner speaks English well!
Unbelievable how delicious and tasty a simple dish can be. But first things first: believe me, you must arrive at least half an hour before the service begin (12:30 to 15:00 lunch and 19:30 to 22:00 dinner), it will get full once it has only 7 tables! Some dishes have half portions options so measure well your hungriness or you won't be able to finish you order. Do take the red wine!
Love to eat there
Insanity. Amazing food, cozy atmosphere, great prices, and lovely service. The house wine is good as well. Be sure to order 1/2 portions!
It was fenomenal!!! If you want to try real portugese food with orginal climat you have to visit Ze Manel dos Ossos!!! It is not fancy restaurant but restaurant with original climat! Just go and try!
This is the place where the people love their job and do everything with passion and love. Even if you have to wait it is definitely worth. The only negative thing is that I don't speak Portuguese and couldn't joke around with the stuff like everyone else.
Food portions are big at a reasonable price. But not worth an hour or more wait.
This place is hands down one of the best (if not the best) restaurants we tried in Portugal. Food is abundant (considering they were half portions!!) and at a very good price. We had boar with potatoes and Feijoada with boar too. Rich flavours and friendly service, what else can you ask for? Arriving early and having a bit of patience is recommended, since the restaurant is very popular and there's always a queue waiting outside.
Best chanfana I've ever eaten. Ossos are alright.Very nice service and place. It's packed all the time
If you want food that makes you forget who you are, where you're sitting, when you were born and why you exist on this planet come here and lose yourself in an unbeatable experience. It's the best.
This was, is and always will be one of the best meals I had during my time in Portugal. We had to wait in line of course but we made friends and drank beer whilst we waited. Once inside we were ushered to our table where the waiter spoke to us in Portuguese, Spanish and English (as we were a mixed bunch) he was incredibly helpful, even telling us when he thought we had ordered to much food. The food, once it arrived was incredibly tasty, homestyle and traditional, the goat was the best I've ever had. The prices were very very reasonable, I would even go as far as to say cheap! All round it is well worth visiting!
Cheap food with generous portions, this busy little place has its vibe. Popular place, come early to avoid long wait.
Best food I had in Coimbra! Loved the goat!
Traditional Portuguese food, absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!
Excellent place and service, very authentic. We had fun making friends in the queue. It was a unique experience. Totally recommended :)
Superdelicious local food, very authentic place. Worth visiting especially if you want to take a part in an amazing culinary travel!
The first time we went (at night) there was a cue and we got told the place would be closed soon and they couldn’t have us. So we came back the next day for lunch. There was also a cue, but it was so worth it! The waiter was extremely nice and friendly. The food was extremely cheap and so, so good. The “half dishes” were huge. Their specialty seems to be pork, so be sure to order it.
Incredible food and service, but don’t eat the day before you come, because you are gonna be full!!!
This restaurant is worth the wait. Arriving 45 to 30 minutes early is ideal. Don't expect tourist flavour food! This is home made portuguese secret sauce, so tasty. Speaciality of the house is bones, but everything else is excellent! Price? Best ever EUR20.00 for two. So happy and stuffed ;) after all
Great food, staff a bit rude, so there's that. Also, the women's bathroom is at a great distance of the restaurant, not recommended for elderly gals
As authentic as it gets! I am not a big experimenter when it comes to food. I was a little skeptical before walking in about boiled ribs, but it ended up being flavorful and delicious. it has an interesting ambiance as well. It was an unique experience eating here.
tiny joint in a tiny alley filled with locals. Staff doesn't speak English but are very very friendly. Food was amazing!
amazing experience. Most of local foods were authentic and fantastic with reasonable price tags and the waiter was very kind. Worth waiting one hour to get in.
This place is not for those who want "good" service with food served on sliver plates. Go here if you want true authentic Portuguese food with family restaurant vibe. Ossos (meat on bones) are delicious as well as black pork belly with rice & beans, but follow the server's recommendation on the order. They will take care of you! One of the best food we had on our 2 week trip in Portugal!!
Food is delicious 🤤! Rice and beans was a surprise! Really tasty! We had pork, and was amazing! Highly recommended!
Good food. Nice place.
We lined up like for a small popular concert and fortunately just made the cut off for the last table of the first dinner seating session. Food was prepared with care, all so tasty and local. You can feel the energy buzzing inside, people chatting, having fun, a totally cozy neat experience if you have time to line up. All our dishes were super, especially liked the boiled beef bones with salt, sounds simple but this was really really good. Wine was cheap and nice too.
Cozy place with bigger portions. Unfortunately no English menu.
Truly 5 stars. Another food obsessed person who had their best meal in Portugal here. I queued up on a Friday night in peak tourist season an hour early and I was third through the door. The people who got there at 7 (opens 7:30) had to wait for a second seating. For me, for food this good, it was more than worth the wait. The owner was a genuinely lovely guy who you can see has passion for his place. I had the “chanfanas” aka goat baked in red wine and my vegetarian girlfriend was well looked after with delicious rice and beans, potatoes and green beans but all cooked with so much flavour that she loved it, and she can be picky. 11/10 for this place, I absolutely loved it. Also, the owner does speak English and I heard him speaking French too.
If you can get a seat you should try this place. Home style cooking. The goat dish and the mushroom dish were fabulous. Very large portions. Food is rich with lots of flavor.
Absolutely delicious. Perfect place to taste true Portuguese cuisine. Big portions, affordable and really tasty. Zè Manel dos Ossos is a small restaurant, probably you'll have to wait in short queue but dishes are worthy to wait.
The best food in whole Portugal, the most nice service and fair prices. We wanted to take 3x half porsion meals for two but chef told us it's too much, it was like that. Two half for two and you are full for the rest of the day. We recommend goat meat in red wine, the best meat we have ever eaten. Why there are only 5 stars, I'm giving 10stars
After;;;This is the best. Thank you Rick Steves. Rui is the best, ask him what to eat and just listen. 🖖🏼🖖🏼🖖🏼🖖🏼
Top.
Is a very famous place to visit in Coimbra, but it's to small and you can easily spend 1 hour in a queue.
Amazing food stop in Coimbra, be sure to come 30min earlier than the opening time. Half rations are already big enough for 2 people. Friendly staff/great intimate atmosphere.
Great food and very nice people! Mario and Jorge were great helping us decided what to order. The "Ossos" were really yummy! This is not a big restaurant so you might have to wait, but it is totally worth it!
Excelent place for authentic traditional Portuguese food! Recommended, but go early or you will need to wait in the line! Nevertheless, even waiting is totally worth it!
The food is delicious!!! You can follow the recommendations of the waiter with the eyes closed! You need to come early because there is not so much seats in the restaurant but it is worth the wait!
Worth the wait. Expect to wait around 20-30 min. It’s a very small place. The food is very traditional and the prices are very good compared to the quality and quantity that you get. It cannot get more traditional than at Ze Manel.
Nice, the staffs were super friendly and provided lot of information for us since we couldn't read the menu without English. The steak is amazing but the rice with beans is a little bit salty. The bones are savoury and flavourful, maybe the best dish in the restaurant , my opinion.
Bones and Wilde pork are amazing. Best restaurant in Coimbra, Portugal and The world.
It is a small place, so get there before it opens. All the dishes follow the original recipe and process. The menu is simple, they only have house wine. The price is fair, the food is beyond enough to satisfy a XL gourmet food blogger. Hands down one of the best restaurants I ever went.
Terrible experience. Made us wait for almost and hour (2 guests), after we managed to get a seat, we waited another 10 minutes to order a beer, had to remind him of our beer three times before having it served. I ordered the filetmignom and was served pork. The lack of time and attention to us caused a miscommunication that I have never experienced in my time travelling and dining. They tried to solve the situation as I left the restaurant when they tried to serve me this, sadly too late. I would not waste my time as there are more than enough good places that treats you better in the area.
Only seven tables? This isn’t a restaurant, it’s a rude hobby. Touted as the best place in town, but how many people would really know? This is how fables get started.
